Police are on the hunt for a group of people who cut off ears and tail of a dying elephant, in Mahawewa area. The elephant was hit and fatally injured by a train in Polonnaruwa- Batticaloa railway line on the 27th this month.
It is reported that the people have cut off the ears and tail of the elephant, while it was still alive, over mythical beliefs.
The Wildlife Department has also launched an investigation into the incident.
A reward of Rs. 10,000 will be given to those providing accurate information.
