A 6.5 magnitude earthquake has hit western Indonesian island of Sumatra.

According to the US Geological Survey the epicenter of the quake was about 40km (25 miles) from the coast.

Local authorities reported two injured and damages to nine buildings in West Sumatra.

Tele-communication links and electricity supply were not affected.
