According to political sources, the Democratic Party led by Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has decided to join the United National Party.

Reports indicated that a working committee meeting with regard to the matter was held yesterday.

It is believed that Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka would be appointed as the Organizer for Kelaniya electorate.

Following the alliance of the two parties, the UNP will offer nominations to the existing local government representatives in due course.

Party sources further noted that the two parties would reach an agreement concerning the matter before the end of this month.

When our news team enquired from party leader Sarath Fonseka, whether the Democratic Party would be dissolved, he did not confirm the matter.

Meanwhile, Minister Sarath Fonseka paid homage to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today.

Later he also paid a courtesy call to the Chief Prelates of Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters.
