Two days after four more fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for violating the maritime boundary, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram sought Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention for their release besides the 90 boats seized.

Indian media reports said that in a letter to Modi, Jayalalithaa apprised him of the latest arrest of four Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy on the 2nd of this month.

She said the fishermen had ventured into the sea from Pudukottai District on June 1st.

Earlier, on May 31st, 7 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister requested Modi to take urgent action to secure the release of the 11 fishermen and a total of 90 fishing boats without any delay.
