An Army personal died at the fire and explosions that broke out at the Salawa Army Camp in Kosgama, Avissawella.

He was identified as K. A. Janaka Chaminda, 38, a father of two from Madagama area in Buttala.

His brother said that Janaka spoke to him over the phone before the incident.

This is the brother’s statement..

“He said that there was a fire at the camp at around 6.29pm. He said ‘brother I got into a drain, the storage has caught fire.’ I told him to be careful and to call me later.

“He has later called a relative in Colombo. His phone did not work afterwards.”
