Government Party MPs held a special meeting last afternoon for discussing the no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake put forward by the Joint Opposition.
The meeting was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
It is said that while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also participated in this special meeting, all MPs representing the Government participated in it.
Reports say that the meeting that began at about 7 p.m. went on till 10 p.m.
UNP ministers and MPs and UPFA ministers and MPs representing the Government participated in the meeting.
The JVP said that it would support the no-confidence motion put forward against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
At a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath said that the JVP would support the no-confidence motion deeming it as a no-confidence motion against the whole Government.
Meanwhile issuing a communiqué the Joint Opposition said that the no-confidence motion put forward against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayke is a Litmus test for the SLFP.
In the communiqué released by the joint opposition, it is said that it believed that this no-confidence motion that was not included in the parliamentary agenda book and taken up for debate during a period of five months would not be withheld again.
