The Defence Secretary Karunasena Hetti Arachchi said that a special military panel will be set up to probe the Sunday’s explosion in the Salawa Army camp in Kosgama.

Addressing a media conference held in the Defence Ministry today, he said the CID has been ordered to investigate the explosion.

Meanwhile, the Defence Secretary made a remark during the media conference suggesting the explosion occurred during a fire-drill in the camp.

Meanwhile, Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera urged the public not to collect debris from the explosion as souvenirs.

The minister of Power and Renewable Energy told the media that his ministry will not charge the electricity payment for this month from the residents of Salawa whose homes were destroyed in the fire, in addition to waiving off their outstanding balance.

Meanwhile a soldier got injured today while clearing houses that were damaged in the surroundings of Salawa Army camp.  He was rushed to Homagama hospital for treatment.

In addition, The Health Ministry stated that water samples from the Salawa area were sent to the Borella Medical Research Institute.
