The Army Media Spokesman Major General Jayanath Jayaweera said that the Salawa Army camp will not be used to store ammunitions in the future.

He said however the camp will be re-established at the same location.

It was also stated that the 500-radius no-go-zone is still in force as soldiers are engaging in clearing of debris from the explosion.

The residents in the area staged a protest yesterday against the authorities giving free access to the road that runs in front of the camp.

The protest was temporarily stopped after Seethawaka Divisional Secretary pledged an assessment of destroyed houses would be conducted today.

However the protest continued this morning, with protestors charging that government officers had not visited the area as promised yesterday.

Our correspondent stated that the protesters used debris to block the road.
