Rs. 100 Million allocated for Salawa

The Treasury has allocated a sum of Rs. 100 million that will be paid as a temporary compensation to the property owners affected following the explosion at Salawa army base in Kosgama.

Secretary to the Finance Ministry Doctor H.S. Samaratunga noted that the relevant funds have been handed over to the Disaster Management Ministry.

Meanwhile, 76 Government Assessors commenced valuations of the damaged houses yesterday.

After the final report is compiled, compensation is expected to be paid with effect from Tuesday (14).

Colombo District Secretary Sunil Kannangara stated that an allowance of Rs. 50,000 is to be provided for a period of three months to the families affected.

The Kosgama Government Hospital which was damaged by the recent explosion at the Salawa Army Camp will be handed over to health authorities tomorrow following repairs.

Also schools in the area which were temporary closed will be reopened tomorrow.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to once again visit Kosgama this afternoon.
