More rains today as high winds are expected in sea areas

The Department of Meteorology says more rains can be expected today as showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, North-Western, Southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Heavy falls (about 100mm) are also likely at some places.

Alos, few showers may occur in the Northern and North-central provinces too, while showers or thunder showers are likely at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2.00 pm.

Meanwhile, strong winds can be expected over the country, particularly over Western slopes of the central hills and Northern, North central and Eastern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

Showers or thunder showers may occur at a few places in the eastern sea areas.

Winds will be South-westerly and speed will be 40 kmph.

The sea area extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai (particularly in the Gulf of Mannar sea area) and the sea area extending from Batticaloa to Matara via Pottuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can be increased up to 60 kmph.
