US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed new information about the 29-year-old Omar Mir Seddique Mateen who gunned down 50 people and injured 53 others in a mass shooting in Orlando.

Mateen, a New York born resident of Florida, was described by U.S. President Barack Obama as ‘a person filled with hate’.

Head of FBI in Orlando Ron Hopper stated that his office first noticed Mateen in 2013. He has made ‘inflammatory comments’ to his co-workers sparking terrorist links.

Mateen was interviewed by the FBI twice.

"Ultimately, we were unable to verify the substance of his comments, and the investigation was closed," Hopper said.

Mateen has worked as a security guard and was trained to use a gun.

Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with a foreign media outlet Mateen's father, Seddique Mateen, has said that during a visit to Miami, a neighbouring city also in Florida, the suspect became enraged after seeing two men kissing, in front of his wife and their child.

He added that "this had nothing to do with religion".
