The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold its thirty-second regular session from the 13th of June to the 1st of July 2016 in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The three-week session will include a high-level panel discussion on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Human Rights Council with the participation of former Council presidents.
Panels will also take place on the thirtieth anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, on the use of sport and the Olympic ideal to promote human rights for all, and on the contribution of parliaments to the work of the Council and the Universal Periodic Review.
A full-day general discussion will be held on the human rights of women.
In addition, the Council will hold interactive dialogues with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, the Commission on Inquiry on Eritrea and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus.
It will hold an enhanced interactive dialogue on South Sudan.
Sri Lanka at the UNHRC
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein is scheduled to deliver the country report and oral update on Sri Lanka on the 29th of this month.
The High Commissioner’s statement is also expected to carry observations made during his four day visit to Sri Lanka in February.
A group of the Tamil National Alliance have also left for Geneva to attend the sessions.
