Postal Services Combined Trade Union Front says that there is a serious back log of mail with more than 600,000 letters waiting to be distributed at the Colombo Central Exchange as a result of the trade union action the postal employees have launched.

The postal employees began the trade union action on Sunday night with several demands including the restoration of overtime bonus payments.

Front convener Chintaka Bandara told our news team that at this stage the demands had not been met in an acceptable manner.

However, Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs Minister Abdul Haleem Mohamed Hasheem said yesterday that steps would be taken to resolve the postal employees’ problems after discussion with the President and the Prime Minister.
