The trade unions attached to the Sri Lanka Port Authority charged that furniture is being manufactured for personal use of the Ports Minister Arjuna Ranatunga in the ports authority’s workshop at Slave Island.

Accordingly, the trade unions accompanied by the media inspected the carpenter workshop at Slave Island today.

The trade unions stated that the carpenters at work provided relevant information with regard to the irregularity.

When enquired by the trade unions, the carpenters who were present, noted that they were manufacturing furniture upon the orders of Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

When our news team contacted the Ministry of Ports and shipping to comment on the allegations, its Media Unit stated that it is not in a position to comment on the matter, as Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga is currently out of the country.
