North-Central contract issue resolved - Instructions to provincial councils to call open tenders

The court ordered yesterday to stop giving contracts to political allies and call for tenders from all registered contractors in the North Central Province.

Provincial Civil Appeals High Court Judge Aaditya Patabandigey gave this order to a group of respondents including North Central Governor, and the Chief Minister when taking up for hearing the petition filed saying that the provinces contracts had been given to allies in politics.

Sri Lanka National Construction Association’s North Central Province Branch Chairman had filed this case with regard to the 50 million rupee worth contract.

The High Court which issued an interim order 14 days after the filing of the petition had barred the implementation of the concerned contract till yesterday.

The Judge extended the interim order till 28th this month.
