Visiting Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang assured in Jaffna yesterday that China will extend its fullest support to develop the former war torn areas as two governments’ shares a cordial relationship.
Ambassador Xianliang met senior higher officials in the region including Governor Reginald Cooray and Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran.
The Chinese Ambassador had told the Governor that China and Sri Lanka enjoy strong historical ties and that the relationship must be taken forward.
The Ambassador also noted that the Chinese Embassy in Colombo is keen to offer assistance to boost the education levels of children in the North.
He also said that China will consider offering scholarships to children in the North.
China has invested heavily in Sri Lanka, particularly to develop the road network and also funded the construction of a port and international airport.
