Former JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe Passes Away

Former JVP leader and leader of the Janatha Sevaka party Somawansa Amarasinghe passed away last night at his brother’s residence in Rajagiriya.

Amarasinghe was 73-years old.

Somawansa Amarasinghe functioned as the party leader from 1990 to 2014 following the demise of JVP founder Rohana Wijeweera

Somawansa Amarasinghe left the country after the murder of Rohana Wijeweera in 1989.

He later took on the responsibility party leadership in 1990 and continued to lead the party whilst overseas until 2001.
