Bodies of 34 migrants, including 20 children, were found in Niger desert last week, auithorities say.

It is believed that the bodies were abandoned by people smugglers while trying to reach Algeria.

“Thirty-four people, including five men, nine women and 20 children died trying to cross the desert,” Niger’s interior ministry said on Wednesday in a statement.

Authorities say that the group ‘probably died of thirst’.
