Court Orders to Handover Former JVP Leader's Body to Relatives

The courts have permitted relatives to have the authority over the final rites of former leader of Janatha Vimikthi Peramuna (JVP) late Somawansa Amarasinghe.

Late Amarasinghe’s nephew Mayura Amarasinghe submitted a motion to the court requesting the relatives have the rights to take decisions regarding demised politician’s body.

Accordingly, Colombo additional magistrate Augusta Atapaththu ordered the above to Welikada Police.

Further, court reports have found out late politician’s demise to be a natural death and granted permission to bury the body.

Meanwhile, speaking to our news team in the noon, Janatha Sevaka Party national organizer Jayantha Wijesinghe said a funeral committee has been formed and, no outsiders will be allowed to take over the organization of late Amarasinghe’s last rites.

When contacted the JVP General Secretary Tilwin Silva said that his party is ready to assist with the funeral rites of the late Amarasinghe according to the wishes of family members.
