Over 4600 military personnel legally discharged from service

A total of 4600 military personal, who have been absent without official leave for a long period, were legally discharged from service.

Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said 4229 personnel from the Sri Lanka Army, 206 from the Navy and 165 from the Air Force were thus legally discharged.

The Ministry of Defence declared a period of amnesty for army deserters who left service before December 31, 2015, to be legally discharged from the service without being subject to any punishment. The amnesty period commenced on 13th this month.
