President Maithripala Sirisena has issued a series of instructions that should be followed by the Police and the Security forces when arresting and detaining suspected terrorists.
Accordingly, the President has advised that suspects arrested under various allegations should not be physically harassed or insulted in a disrespectful manner.
It is also significant that the series of instructions given by the President were released during a Human rights council session in Geneva.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein’s verbal report is to be produced to the Human rights council session in Geneva on the 27th of June.
The Human rights commission of Sri Lanka has the authority over the action taken with regard to suspected terrorists.
The circular which has been released by the President has been compiled in accordance with the recommendations of the Human rights commission.
