The suspect arrested in connection with the murder of the nine-year-old girl in Morana in Rideemaliyadda in Mahiyanganaya is scheduled to be produced before the Mahiyanganaya Magistrate’s court today.

The suspect, a 33-year-old resident of Morana and father of two, was arrested in close proximity to his home on Sunday.

It has been revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime, that he sexually abused the child before the murder.

The victim has been identified as Malki Sandamali Chandrasiri, a student of Kudalunuka Junior School. Reports indicate that she was on her way home from school around noon when the incident took place.

It has been revealed that 15 years ago the suspect had been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment over the sexual abuse of another schoolgirl.
