Strong Winds to Stir the Country: Naval and Fishing Communities Asked to Be Vigilant

Sri Lanka Meteorological Department says Strong winds at times can be expected over the southern and western sea areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers may also occur at several places in the other sea areas.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly and speed will be 40-50 kmph.

The deep and shallow sea area extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo and Hambantota can be very rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmph.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Meanwhile, Meteorological Department also says strong winds at times is expected to continue over the southern half of the island, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills and Southern province.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and several spells of showers are expected in the Western and North-western provinces.

A few showers are also likely in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces.
