The Sports Ministry stated today that the Defender Jeep parked at Madiwela MPs’ housing scheme belongs to the sports ministry.

Deputy Sports Minister H.M.M. Haris noted that Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake provided false information to the media about the Jeep which had been parked in front of his official residence.

Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and a relative of Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Ananda Aluthgamage, charged that the abandoned jeep had been used by Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

A heated situation erupted between Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage over this incident at the parliament complex yesterday.  

Later Deputy Minister Ramanayake said the exchange of blows that occurred between the two did not cause much damage.

Meanwhile, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage has sent a letter of demand to Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and UNP MP Ananda Aluthgamage claiming a compensation of Rs. 500 million for making defamatory statements.

However, when our news team contacted Sports Deputy Minister H.M.M. Haris said that he is currently using the controversial Defender Jeep.
