Britain voted to leave the European Union in a referendum, with the result throwing into question the fate of the 28-nation bloc and several high-profile British politicians, including the prime minister.

The official results were announced with Leave receiving 59.1 percent in today’s historic referendum.

Sri Lanka was of the opinion that the United Kingdom should remain in the EU and, thereafter, it supported propaganda campaigns in London to make the opinion victorious in the referendum.

Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha de Silva said that the UK’s decision to withdraw from the EU will have a negative impact on Sri Lanka.
