Fifty workers of the state owned Kahatagaha Graphite mine are carrying out a hunger strike about 1800 feet below ground.

They are demanding the increase of the risk allowance from Rs. 16 to Rs. 400. The workers say that they were paid Rs. 16 for the past 40 years.

The protest that was launched several days ago was converted into a hunger strike yesterday.
