The customs department says that the suspicious Singaporean ship anchored near the Colombo Harbour, fled due to not possessing the documentation required when entering a port.

The vessel was detained by the Customs following an interception made by the Navy off Galle on the 29th of June.

When contacted, the customs media spokesman, Dharmasena Kahandawala stated that a report will be provided following investigations on Monday.

The ship which was detained off the Galle coast has been registered under the Singapore flag.

However, its final departure has been recorded from a harbour in Pakistan.

The vessel had left Colombo anchorage during inspections carried out by the customs and was intercepted and detained later by the Navy and the Coast Guard, with 27 crew aboard the vessel.
