Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy who was appointed the new Central Bank Governor will hand over relevant documents of his position today.
He will take over his duties today.
The appointment was made following a lengthy discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
After they made the selection public, Dr. Coomaraswamy met the island heads on Saturday (02).
He will replace former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran whose duty period expired on 30th last month.
Dr. Coomaraswamy who was born in 1950, pursued his education at Colombo Royal College and Harrow College in England.
He holds a first class honours degree from the Cambridge University and obtained his PhD from the Sussex University.
After joining the Central Bank in the year 1973, he served as an officer attached to the sections of economic research, statistics and Bank Supervision until 1989.
He also served in the Ministry of Finance and Planning from 1981 to 1989.
Later he served as the Director of Economic Affairs at the Commonwealth Secretariat from 1990 to 2008.
