Certain government hospitals services around the island were disrupted today due to a four-hour token strike against Malabe private medical college. The strike was launched by a group of doctors, nurses and health workers.
Hospital directors told our news team that OPD services and clinics came to standstill due to the strike.
The token strike which started at 8 o’clock this morning ended at 12 noon.
The GMOA, All Ceylon Government Medical Officers association, government dentists Association and Ayurveda Physicians Association participated in the strike.
In addition, the All Ceylon Family Health Service offices association, the all Ceylon nurses association, Health services association, ward clerk association and all Ceylon telephone operators joined the strike as well.
Meanwhile GMOA’s media spokesman Dr. Samantha Ananda reported that the strike was successful.
At the same time, the Inter University Students Federation has organized protests against Malabe private medical college in front of Rajarata, Ruhuna, Sri Jayewardenepura, Wayamba and Peradeniya universities.
