Seven arrested for illegal excavation of ancient clay pots

Seven people, including a woman, were arrested over the illegal excavations at the Nandimithragama archeological site in Bogaswewa, Vavuniya.

Police said the suspects are from Vavuniya, Kalutara, Wennappuwa and Ingiriya areas.

Initial investigations showed that the group were involved in a racket of selling clay pots of archeological value to foreigners.

Police also took a motorbike and equipment used for excavations.
