Nine mothers were arrested today for forcibly entering the premises of Mathugama Meegahatenna College along with their children.

Later the mothers were remanded until the 7th of July when they were produced before Matugama Magistrate.

Earlier, Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma, who demanded the school authority to admit the children to this school, launched a protest as his demand was not met.

Later, he attempted to commit suicide.

However, he was rushed to a Colombo private hospital following a heart attack.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister left the hospital on his own accord after he learnt that the mothers were arrested today.

When Thevarapperuma arrived at the Court, it had been closed for the day.

Meanwhile, our correspondent stated that the deputy minister is giving a statement to Meegahatenna Police at this moment.

Earlier, teachers of the Meegahatenna College also launched protest complaining that the principal was assaulted.

In this backdrop, the mothers were arrested when they forcibly entered the school premises this morning.
