Muthurajawela Oil Refinery spill under control

A tube at the Muthurajawela Oil Refinery has leaked last night. The officials concerned said the spill was brought under control.

According to a Ceylon Petroleum Corporation senior spokesman a tube carrying crude oil from deep sea has thus leaked.

It was reported that such leaks had occurred along the same pipeline on several occasions in the past, the most recent being on December 31last year.

The last nights leak occurred while 1500 metric tons of kerosene was being pumped.  Dik Ovita lagoon was polluted due to the leak.
