Four persons including Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma arrested in connection with the incident of admission of children forcibly to the Matugama - Meegahatenna School were remanded till tomorrow.

That was after they were presented before the Magistrate yesterday.

The Meegahatenna Police arrested nine mothers concerned over the charge of forcibly entering the school with their children.

While subsequently they were presented before the magistrate, it was also ordered on this occasion that the mothers be remanded till tomorrow.

Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma who had been admitted to a private hospital in Colombo after his attempt to hang himself subsequent to a fast demanding the admission of the children concerned to the school was receiving treatment at the time.

However, on hearing about the arrest of the mothers, Thevarapperuma came out of the hospital to the Matugama court saying that he should be arrested instead of the mothers.

As the parents were already arrested by then, the Deputy Minister went towards the Meegahatenna police and surrendered to the police.

Among the three arrested persons are the former Walallawita Divisional Opposition Leader and former UNP Divisional Councilor.
