Fellow Officer Remanded over Death of Wild Life Officer during Raid

The fellow officer arrested in suspicion of the death of the assistant wild life officer whose service weapon misfired during a raid has been sentenced with remand custody until 20th this month.

H.P. Jagath Seneviratne of Buwellagoda who was involved in a raid, to arrest a group of hunters near the Katuwewa bird sanctuary in Hambantota died after his service weapon misfired accidentally.

It is reported that the deceased and his fellow officer who was remanded today, were engaged in a scuff while they attempted to arrest the hunters.

The service weapon of the deceased had misfired during the scuffle and injured assistant wild life officer, who succumbed to injuries at Hambantota hospital.
