The gate keepers working at unprotected railway crossings launched a strike at 6am this morning.

The strike was launched against the failure of the authorities to increase the monthly allowance of 5000 rupees as promised.

The Chairman of the Unprotected Railway Gate Keepers Association, J.A.C. Premalal said that 2061 gate keepers attached to 687 unprotected railway crossings throughout the island have joined the strike.
