President Maithripala Sirisena said a decision with regard to the bus fare revision will be taken after the next Cabinet meeting.
The President made this announcement at a meeting with the representatives of Bus Owners Associations at the President’s official residence, yesterday.
President Sirisena said private bus owners will be given an opportunity to express their opinion before the expert committee which was appointed for the bus fare revision. The expert committee is to submit a set of proposals to the next Cabinet meeting based on the views of bus owners and other stakeholders.
The Transport Minister will announce the decisions to be taken up with regard to the bus fare revision.
It was decided at the discussion with the President that no new route permits should be issued to private buses until further notice by the National Transport Commission or other provincial passenger transport authorities.
