The JVP staged a protest at the Kiribathgoda town yesterday against the VAT amendment that the Government has allegedly imposed unjustly.
Participating in the protest JVP Provincial Councillor Mahinda Jayasinghe said the Government should revise this unfair tax policy immediately.
Meanwhile the National Freedom Front was also engaged yesterday in front of Fort Railway station in a campaign of distributing handbills against the VAT amendment.
Protest campaigns were held in several towns in the island yesterday against the VAT.
Protests had been organized in several towns in the Hambantota and Ratnapura districts as well.
In addition, the protests the JVP had organized in several towns including Maharagama, Gampaha, Elpitiya, Ambalantota and Kegalle were held against the VAT increase.
A campaign the joint opposition and the Ratnapura Vendor Community had organized was held at the Ratnapura town yesterday.
Thus protest campaigns were held at several places such as Pelmadulla, Rakwana, Godakawela and Udawalawa in the Ratnapura District.
Reports say that VAT protests rallies have been organized in Anuradhapura and Kurunegala today as well.
