The strike launched by the keepers of unprotected railway gates is continuing today.

The gate keepers launched the protest at 6 am yesterday complaining that the 5 thousand rupees salary increment pledged by the authorities has not yet been given.

President of the Gate Keepers of Unprotected Railway crossings A.W. Premalal stated that authorities, together with police have made threats against certain strikers and attempted to sabotage the trade union action.

However Railway Security Director Anura Premarathna said that the strike has had no impact on regular train schedules.

Meanwhile a service hut of the unprotected railway crossing at Alhambra on Chilaw Mankulam road has been set on fire by an unknown group.  The gate keeper attached to the Alhambra railway crossing said that his hut was set on fire as he refused to join the strike.
