6 Persons Arrested for Illegal Mining at Thawulwewa Forest Reserve

Six persons have been arrested under the charges of engaging in illegal mining for artefacts, at Thawulwewa forest reserve in Gomerankadawala yesterday.

Police also took several religious artefacts and mining equipment into custody.

The suspects, aged between 28 to 56 years, are residents of Gomerankadawala, Galenbindunuwewa and Urapola areas.

The Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court has ordered the suspects to be remanded until the 18th of this month.
