MP Namal Rajapaksa was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) a short while ago.
He was arrested when he went to give a statement regarding a fraud of Rs. 70 million after a complaint was lodged at the FCID.
Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, MPs Namal Rajapaksa and Kumara Welgama reported to the FCID this morning.
The Former Defence Secretary was to give a statement with regard to the investigation being carried out in connection with siphoning 90 million rupees from the Lowland Development Board to build the D.A. Rajapaksa museum.
At the same time, MP Namal Rajapaksa was to give a statement to the FCID with regard to the 70 million rupees that has not been accounted for.
It has been alleged that MP Rajapaksa is said to have informed the Krrish group of Companies to award a 70 million rupees grant to a sports club, to be used for the development of Rugby.
However, the initial investigations revealed that the said money has been deposited to a personal bank account.
Namal was summoned to the FCID today to record a statement with regard to this incident.
Meanwhile MP Kumara Welgama has been summoned to the FCID today to record a statement in connection with importing spare parts for SLTB buses without paying duty.
A FCID spokesman told our news team that statements are being recorded from the three individuals at this moment.
