United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Udaya Gammanpila has called for a public referendum into the Indo – Lanka Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA).
Speaking at a media briefing this afternoon MP Gammanpila said the opposition or any other group will not oppose the Agreement if the public consents to it.
He called on the government to table the ETCA agreement to the people and go into a referendum adding if the public consents, then the Opposition won’t oppose it.
MP Gammanpila added if the government believes that they are considering the betterment of the people and if they believe they are not puppets of the Indian government then a referendum should be called.
He said the ETCA will be defeated in a public referendum with the support of all citizens.
