The peoples’ view on the Indo-Sri Lanka Economic and Technology Cooperative Agreement (ETCA) must be gauged by way of a referendum, Joint Opposition Parliamentarian Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said.

He was speaking at a press conference at the N. M. Perera Centre in Borella this afternoon.

He said government should hold a referendum to gauge the people’s opinion on the issue. “That is what is meant by democracy, touted by the good-governance government,” he said, adding, “In the UK a referendum was held to get the views of the people, and the Prime Minister was thus deposed.”
