India’s Tamil Maanila Congress has once again appealed to the Indian government to force the Sri Lankan government to release the 73 Indian fishermen arrested on charges of poaching.
The TMC’s leader GK Vasan said 101 boats have been impounded as well. Speaking to Indian media yesterday (13) Vasan said the livelihoods of fishermen of Rameswaram and Nagapattinam are at threat due to arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy.
He requested the Indian government to provide compensation to boat owners whose vessels were seized.
The Indian official added the government should take constructive steps and protect the livelihood of fishermen.
