Sri Lanka’s Former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has been issued notice to appear before the Colombo, Fort Magistrate’s Court today.
He has been summoned over investigations carried out into large scale fraud pertaining to the purchase of four MIG-27 aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The notice issued to Udayanga Weeratunga, who is currently overseas, also calls for him to support investigations carried out by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division.
Investigations are currently underway into the purchase of the MIG aircraft in 2006 that amounted to 372 million rupees.
Udayanga Weeratunga was named a chief respondent in the case but has been overseas since last year.
