No reports of Sri Lankans hurt in military coup in Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

A source to the ministry said that they are in touch with the Sri Lankan envoy in Turkey regarding the incident and developments.

A special number was introduced to obtain information regarding Sri Lankans in Turkey.

The number is 0090 534 010 2105.

A military coup against the Turkish government erupted a tensed situation in the country especially in its capital, Ankara. At least 42 people were reported to be killed during the breakout.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was reported to have flown to Istanbul where he announced that the coup attempt was an ‘act of treason’.

Meanwhile, 130 people were arrested in connection to the incident, Turkish Premier Binali Yildirim said adding that orders were given to shoot at the plane used by the conspirators.
