The Consumer Affairs Authority has filed lawsuits against 99 vendors who sold commodities exceeding the new control prices, announced via gazette notification.

An island-wide operation was launched yesterday in search of vendors who sell goods at a higher price.

Accordingly, 300 shops were subjected to inspection.

Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority Hasitha Thilakaratne noted that they intend to continue the operation today and the next few days.

Recently a gazette notification was released by the government after setting a control price for 16 essential commodities.

The public can dial 1977 and complain about vendors who sell goods higher than the relevant control prices.

In addition, the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority noted that steps will be taken to supervise officers who are engaged in such raids from the main office, via GPS technology.
