The Consumer Affairs Authority has caught 200 vendors who sold price controlled essential commodities during a raid.

The CAA said over 500 business places were checked in Colombo, Gampaha and several over areas on 16th and 17th.

It added that a special raid will be launched to check for substandard coconut oil and coriander.

Meanwhile the Essential Food Commodities Wholesale and Retail Traders Association says that there is a risk of food that are unsuitable for human consumption to be sold as a result of the recently declared control prices.

Participating in a media briefing held in Kegalle yesterday, Association Chairman Bandula Jayamanna said that fixing controlled prices for sprats, dhal, sugar and gram was problematic.
