The government states that it strongly condemns the clash erupted between two students groups in Jaffna University on Saturday.
The Government Information Department stated in a communiqué today that steps will be taken to reopen the University soon as the situation has returned to normal.
University authorities have pledged to take disciplinary action against the students who unleashed violence against their fellow students.
Meanwhile police stated that investigations have been initiated already and, proper legal action will be implemented against the culprits.
At the same time, the government stated that certain factions are attempting to misinterpret the incident as a communal clash.
It also termed the incident as a mere clash between two student groups and pointed out that students belonging to different communities and religious denominations have studied in peace at Jaffna University during the last 6 years.
Meanwhile Law and Order Minister Sagala Rathnayake says that government ministers will visit Jaffna tomorrow to look into the incident occurred in Jaffna University.
At the same time, views over the clash at the Jaffna University were expressed at several media conferences yesterday (19).
