The CID’s Katunayake Unit was able to unearth a large scale racket relating to the preparation of documents including forged passport and visa.
Recently a woman was arrested with a forged passport along with a counterfeit visa at the Katunayake airport.
Information about this racket came to light after questioning her.
Consequent upon this revelation another resident in Ampara was arrested.
Police said that 28 forged passports had been recovered from his possession.
Similarly in investigations carried out further, while a house in Kotikawatta was inspected, more than 70 forged passports were recovered.
Reports say that police apprehended several printing machines used in the racket as well as a stock of fraudulently prepared seals.
Investigations carried out further have revealed that the house concerned had been used as a printing press for printing counterfeit visa.
