Indian fishermen of Rameswaram have decided to carry out a series of agitations on July 22nd 26th and 28th, to make several demands including the release of 77 of their colleagues being held in Sri Lankan custody.
A resolution has been passed to press for the demands made, at a meeting of fishermen associations of Rameswaram held yesterday.
When our news team inquired about this matter from the ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, its secretary W.M.M.R. Adhikaari stated steps will be taken to release these Indian fishermen in due of time.
She also said that the letter with regard to the release of these fishermen has already been sent to the Indian High Commission.
The Ministry Secretary further said the letter sent to the Indian High Commission has informed them that the fishing boats and gear will not be released.
